I would like to use it on my index but you have to use4 an extension .shtml
are this extensions getting worse results in search engines that .htm?
Does the spiders see this extension as .htm?
Does someone have experience?

The extension makes no difference as far as rankings are concerned, but if you're on a Linux server you can configure .htaccess to parse .shtml files as .html. That way you can use SSI and still keep your .html extensions. This is what I use:
Options Includes AddType text/html .html AddHandler server-parsed .html

Absolutely correct! We have few sites using .shtml without any problems at all.

Don't worry about .shtml.
With my one site I use all pages with .shtml extention and Get 3PR within 4 months and also rank satisfactory to me with google.
If you have no more question please close the topic by mentioning same.
