Does Google Filter Out Banner Ads Links

Hi,

I have bought advertising on an expert / hub site regarding my producst. If I sell widgets, I have placed banner an text ads on a site about Widgets.

I have heard from others that Google does not like paid ads and filters them out. I don't know how google would know they are paid for. Also I am essentially getting a link from a site that is related to my content.

I think it would make sense to filter out links from sites that are unrelated, like a site about Cars linking to a page about Dogs and not give bonuses from link text etc. The link we are getting is related to our topic, would this be a problem?

A lot of sites offer "Link To Us" instructions and use text and banners so just the repeated use of a text phrase or a banner can't be bad can it? Has anyone else heard that Google has a way of checking whether you paid for a link and will filter it to be meaningless?
