No. The DNS change should propagate within a day or two and everything will be fine. Leave the site on the old server for a few days though, (couple of weeks is plenty), to make sure it can still be found on the non-propagated IP# during the interim.

We upgraded from a Shared Hosting to a VPS account on the same server. The company told us we had to delete the old domain from the server and then contact them so they could do some clean up on their end. Then, they set up our VPS account.

But no, it didn't hurt changing IP's at all. Just the downtime was nerve racking.

we've done this twice on two different sites and ISP's .

Once from a shared IP to a dedicated IP on the same server- that was OK, took about 2 days to update all the DNS's ( Data Name Servers )

Second time was Shared Hosting to Virtual Server - although we were allowed to load the pages on the new server before the ISP wiped the data on the old server 2 weeks or so later.

A change of IP doesn't always mean a server change.

One problem might be if the IP is shared with other sites considered by Google to be a "bad neighborhood".

I've moved a site a couple of times since 2002 without any adverse impact.
