Sub-domain optimzation

Hi

I have a main site which is very well optimized and ranked and being in travel industry the client is expanding its domain is it suggestible to go for a sub-domain for different countries like abc.example.com for main domain like www.example.com and also how much tie does it take to get a sub-domian ranked if main site is very well ranked.
