Expired domain penalty - same for inactive domains?

I was unaware of the expired domain penalty until recently when it was mentioned here, but I'm wondering if there is a similar penalty for domains that have been inactive for a while (say 6 months), and then reactivated. The domain was never expired, it just didn't go to a website. Does anyone have any info?

We have a site that was getting traffic, but there was a split between the partners that owned the site. The site was taken down while that was resolved, but it's just about to be relaunched. Is this going to cause a problem does anyone know?
