Removing dynamic urls?

Our site has like many, a dynamic template page which is used for different subjects eg. pagename.cfm?type=clothing.

The Google URL removal tool can obviously remove the entire pagename.cfm url, but we are wondering if its possible to just remove the clothing url, by including the type=clothing parameter in the url.

Then using a conditional metatag robots disallow tag in the page ie. if type=clothing include metatag.

Anyone got any experience of this? Any help much appreciated.

( Don't want to accidentally lose the entire template page as many of the individual pages rank very highly ).

Yes, you can do it. Google sees the dynamic as a completely seperate URL. It has been a while since I needed to do it but if I remember correctly I used a CFSWITCH/CFCASE statement to provide the metatag for the pages I wanted removed. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Am going to try it on a non-critical template and see what happens. As the individual pages are listed I presumed that Google sees them as separate.
cfswitch will work well as there may be a few pages to remove.

Just try not to use id as variable (e.g. id=123). As long as you stick to one to three named variable (eg.g type=clothing), you are on the safe side :)
