Cached page equals Goolge last update?

Date of cached page usefull to know when Google updated your page?

Cached pages show that info:

as retrieved on 4 Apr 2005 07:30:15 GMT.

Is that info useful to determine if your last page update was picked and updated in Google?

Suppouse you change minimal things in your page. You upload ftp but, is google showing your updated page in serp? Well, perhaps if some time passed but how to determine if you are looking in serp your updated page or last google found and updated?

Cache date just equals the last time the page was cached. nothing less - nothing more.

Ok. Anyway to know precisely if your last updated doc version is being shown or serp or is it other prior?

Taking a leaf out of Brett's book I disallowed caching of pages on one of my sites. I felt myself suddenly handicapped as I used the cached date to know when Google last visited a page. The same information is available in my stats, of course, but when doing searches and finding my page in the SERPs ...cached date it's a quick and easy way to see when it was last visited.

I appreciate that allowing the cache means I lose some pages views when visitors look at the cache rather than visiting my site but with certain types of visitors (particularly non-webmaster types) they hardly ever look at cached copies anyway.

Am I missing something?
