I have started noticing a url like this: http://www.SomeOnesDomain.com/?abcinstory-ncfordclics showing up in the logs of a client site. The part in question is:?abcinstory-ncfordclics

Is that google doing some sort of tracking? Or is it a method from tracking Google refers that google offers?

Any thoughts?

First, happy WebmasterWorld anniversary ST! Good to see you posting again!

Explain what you are seeing again? What does Google have to do with it?

Brett - thank you!

When the name of this Ford dealership is searched for, Google returns a result that clearly has tracking code on it - no such url exists on the site. See the part after the domain name. It's not from adWords it's just a url in the regular Google results.

www.DomainNameCut.com/?abcinstory-ncfordclicks

Google did not get (?abcinstory-ncfordclicks) from any page on the site. When you follow the link from the Google results you end up on www.DomainNameCut.com/

It is some type of tracking code and it's keyword specific for the name of the buainess. Also, (?abcinstory-ncfordclicks) does not show up on any other search engine for the same search.

Any Thoughts?

could this be a link from ford? These manufacturers provide templates, serverspace etc to the dealers.

I know GM provides a templated 'website' to dealers which link to product info, warranty info and such from head office while the local dealerships insert their local info into specified areas.

it is likely a 'search for a dealer in your area' link from the ford site.
