Excluded from Google directory

What does it mean?

One of my sites was in the DMOZ and Google directories before I made an address change. DMOZ updated the address change upon my request, and the site appears with correct information on DMOZ directory. But in the last udate, Google excluded my site with the new address (the old address isn't there either). Only one site is missing from the G directory compared to DMOZ in my category, and that is my site. Does this mean that my site has been penalized for something I did wrong during the address change?

Was your site out of DMOZ for a while? If the order of events was this, then you'd expect to see what you're seeing:

Url changed.
Old url error detected by DMOZ.
Site removed from DMOZ.
Google directory updated from DMOZ.
Url change in DMOZ requested.
Url changed in DMOZ.

If that's what happened, then you should be back in the Google directory next time it updates.

Was the new address truly new? If the new address was previously used by somebody else, and that person violated Google's terms of service, you may be suffering the ill effect of their misconduct.

My site was never out of DMOZ for the last 5-6 months, and I am the first person using the new domain. Before I moved the site completely to www.newdomain.com, I was using a DNS forwarding to my site from www.newdomain.com. I wonder if this may have caused the problem.

Was your listing updated in mid-February? I wonder if the change was being made at the very moment that the software was running to create the RDF dump that Google picks up. If there was some technical hitch that caused the listing not to go into the dump, then not to worry. It should be just a matter of time before Google updates again and picks up the new listing.

Google uses a RDF dump of DMOZ, that is always behind the live DMOZ.org index, equally the Google Directory index does not update on the same time line as the regular Google index.

It has also been known for Google to roll back the Directory index to previous RDF dumps.

Wait till the next couple of Google Directory updates before worrying too much, besides DMOZ listings and inclusions are generally not nearly as important as they used to be to Google rankings.
