get traffic to new subdomain

by making good use of base URL

Say I have a site with good traffic and PR
[mysite.tld]
and I just created a new subdomain
[keyword.mysite.tld]
which has content totally unrelated to the base domain.

how could I go about utilizing the traffic from the base domain to increase flow to the new sub?

also, would this avoid the sandbox effect?
