main results and supplemental results

the difference, and some strange movement?

I've been keeping track of how many indexed pages my sites have on google(normal results/supplemental):

2/6/05
2440/2390

2/19/05
4070/11700

2/28
4420/13000

3/13
3350/3350

But I did the same thing today (allinurl:)
3/17
1140/13800

Can someone explain this movement? is it because im hitting different data centers (I dont know much about them, I just hear them mentioned in this forum once in a while).

Just wondering if I should be worried about something.

I am looking forward to a reply of your question as well because sometimes results on Google just donīt make sense.

Just think of how strange it is that my results under the section "who links you" have hardly changed (improved) over the past two month despite the fact that the site counts with more an more links on other high ranking websites.

Strange isnīt it?

This allows only one conclusion: Google does not count the links on all pages in favor of that one website.

So how is it possible to know on which pages Google will count the links?

Any idea?

Google quit counting all links a long time ago and it gets less every month. If you compare google links to Yahoo links you will see they are about 10% of what yahoo reports. It used to be a lot more. Next month they may dissappear all together.

If you check MSN links they are massive compared to yahoo. And Gigablast has a lot of links also. However I think they are adding a lot of "self" links.

I don't know why they are flucturating other than Google may be trying to do something about the 302 hijacking issue (rolling back to Allegra and back again as mentioned on another thread) but Supplemental results are usually a result of duplicate content, i.e., your content is posted elsewhere and you're being penalized for it or else you've posted it on your site with the same result.

A page is also tagged as supplemental if it doesn't have any incoming links, or if it's part of an "island" of pages that has no incoming links.

rfung: Could you explain how you're counting numbers of normal vs. supplemental pages? (For small sites it's easy enough, but you're talking about thousands of pages...) Thanks.
