Don't hesitate to add links to related authority sites, for example official websites of bands and their publishers. Google likes pages with quality links, users like it too.
Submit page to DMOZ and other directories - Google will spider it after finding the links from them.
If you want to spam blogs - do it with links to your competition ;))) (just kidding, don't try it at all, or you'll lose your domain and will have to start from the beginning)
Do you have permission from the authors of these 7000 songs to publish their lyrics, or are these all old traditional meleodies, or are they original works?
Most music published since 1923 is protected by copyright (US law, your mileage may vary). It is against the TOS of most advertisers to run ads on sites that infringe copyright. It could also get you sued. Also a reason for not getting listed in DMOZ (like they need a reason -- but that's another story). Lots of folks get away with copyright infringement, esp. in the lyrics area -- but it's still against the law.
If you own these lyrics, you shouldn't have any problems with duplicate content vs other sites. I apologize for any false assumptions I may have made, but better safe than sorry, you know.
Theres even a directory on DMOZ.org that is just for lyrics, and they have sites that are similar to mine (albeit, those sites have too many advertisements, and popups,) yet they don't seem to have any problems.

However, regarding the "informational" nature of the site, it would be difficult to claim "fair use" of song lyrics or any intellectual property for that matter, if you quote it at length (more than just a few lines).
It wouldn't suprise me if DMOZ has lots of lyrics sites listed with content that is not properly licensed. I just thought that perhaps you wouldn't want to risk losing that lucrative Adsense account for violting the Adsense TOS. Could go up in a puff of smoke. Also, a DMCA notice could get your entire site zapped off your server overnight without you ever being notified. Seems like a waste of time and effort to create thousands of pages of material which you simply don't own.
Again, I apologize if my assumptions are incorrct and BTW, I am not a lawyer, although my nickname played one in a novel and a movie.
It could go up in a puff of smoke that way...or I could just shut down the site now.
Either way all my hard work would be lost :(
There's lots of information that you can use safely and freely in the public domain. If you really want to publish a web site that looks professional and makes a few bucks, why not do a little research into material which you can use legally, then find a way to repackage it in a manner which is valuable to internet users?
Do some research on terms like "intellectual property," "copyright" and "public domain." There's enough material available out there that you should have little problem keeping busy.
You could also try creating your own material based on the songs of your favorite bands. Write reviews, create quizzes, etc. You could even quote some songs in your reviews and articles, if you keep it short and give proper credit to the authors (fair use).
There's so much opportunity to create content you can call your own, why feel bad about making a mistake or two on the way? Good luck and have fun!
Also, something weird happened. If I do a text search of my URL in google, there is a cached page with a link to my site, but google didn't follow the link, according to my logs. Why did this happen?
I wouldn't be too concerned about Gbot not following one specific link. Even when G was working in a predicable manner, it sometimes took a month or more for inbound links to be spidered and added.
Just keep working on your content, make it good and clean and something that people will find useful.
Can you suggest a way of getting links to my site (without making something like spam blogs,) while staying away from link exchanges?There are many ways to go about it, but the ones below are the best.
1) Write a Press Release about your web site, make sure you placed a link to your site in it and submit it to Press Release web sites.
2) Write a testimonial of a site, service or product and submit it to them, make sure you put your link in there.
3) Submit to directories such as Yahoo!, DMOZ and Joe Ant. You will also likely find directories that are just for your market or local area.
4) Write articles and a submit them to article sites, in the the author's resource box put your link in there.
5) Join forums that are about your subject and insert your link in your signature file on each post, but be careful some forums do NOT allow (Such as Webmaster World.) this and will kick you out.
