Today's question: I'm in the process of link building. For a high GPR (for the homepage), should I try to steer ALL inbound links toward the homepage, or is it equally effective to have backlinks distributed all over the site?
The reason I ask this is because it is relatively easy to post a low-level page that is backlink worthy (I just mention someone and they want to link back), but it is much harder to convince them to link to the homepage.
Make certain that your home page is directly linked to by the page mentioning person x.
That way a portion of the pr will go to the home page.
Now remember the the link text of both the link to person x's page and your link back to your home page is important.
Good luck
The homepage. But that is strictly in terms of PR for the homepage, which is simplistic to think about. Think about the value of your entire domain, what is best for it and your visitors.
