Googlebot anyone?

Is it just me or has anyone seen googlebot lately?

Used to get many daily visits from GB. Some of our pages started dropping from Google and I started checking the logs, and noticed Googlebot hasn't visited ANY of our domains (even the still indexed ones) since 2/28/05. It seems they all stopped on the same day. Anyone seen Googlebot since then?

visiting multiple times a day...but there was a dry week or so. Change some content, get a new link!

Coming by daily on two of my sites and weekly on a low PR site - same as always.
The amount of changed pages seems to be an influencing factor - sites that stay static seem to be visited less often than sites that change daily - noticeable changes, not bit-twiddling changes.

Very busy ...

on 3/2 and 3/3 they picked up alot of content; did not care if it was old.

on 3/7 and 3/8 they have been sending "if modified since" requests and have gone deeper into my site than normal.

on 3/4 - 3/6 baseline hits.

I've notice the 304 requests because my old style (semi old i'm only 20% converted) used SSI withoug a last modified date. I've been changing content so that I create that header; MSNbot does not use it, but slurp and googlebot seem to like using it. Googlebot seems to hit the 304 rapidly untill it finds a modified page then waits 60 sec till the next hit.

I've been playing with 304 responces because I am working on a dynamic rss feed. And, i thought it would be fun to see how search engines react.

They usually come by everyday and sample a portion of my site.

Yesterday they stayed around until they had visited 1434 of my 1377 pages.

Apparently some were tasty enough for a second byte.

I've notice alot of 304 hits for 2nds on pages I give the "last modified date" in the header. I've given a number of 200 hits to that modified since request ... it will be interesting to see if that wets googlebots taste buds.

Have you checked the raw log files - you may find entries for gbot there.
It's probably your stats program that isn't reporting visits.
