Google Tracking Clicks...?

Google seems to be using tracking URL's in the search results.

I have not seen this before, however today I was doing a Google search for "<snip>" and noticed Google was including a tracking URL on each of the links. As I am writing this I see this behavior off and on. Has anyone else seen this before...? Perhaps this was a random keyword being used as a test by a programmer. Or, maybe Google is considering tracking click thru's from search results.

They have done it with click through counters on/off for over 5 years.

[google.com...]

They also have had a java script counter in place for almost 2.
