I used the URL Removal tool to successfully (I thought) remove the old home page for my site (index.htm). The new page is index.html. index.htm does not show up using the Site command.
However, if I type my company's name into the Address bar of my IE6 browser Google tries to take me to the non-existent homepage.
Anyone know anything about this issue?

This sounds like it's the IE6 autocomplete function that's offering you something you last typed in ages ago.
Try temporarily turning it off. I don't use IE myself, but there are also instructions on the Google website help pages on what to do....
