at the moment we are ranking very well for our German language website. Now we want to launch the English version. What would you think is the better way:
– to incorporate the English version like www.widgets.de/english/
or
- to have a unique url like www.widgets-online.com?
Our fear is that we might delude keyword density when we add the English version to the same German url and therefore might drop in the SERPs.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Personally I would not have thought it would dilute keyword density.
Do I assume you rank highly in Google.de in German and you want to translate that site into English and have a go for the .com listings?
Maybe it depends whether you believe in the sandbox theory or not and the supposed inability to launch new sites with new domains however, IMHO, why can you not try some test pages with your existing .de domain in English as you suggest and ascertain their rankings?
If you are already doing well the probability is that they should also be picked up quickly and displayed and then if they are really successful consider a completely new domain later on by linking directly to the new domain pages directly from your .de.
Does that clarify your question?
To add a bit more I personally like to have each language site as a stand alone with all the images delivered from one server but with a hard coded link between the authority site and the link reciprocated, the other sites only link where relevant.
It works extremely well for me.
