SIte Linking to Me is Now Penalizing Me

Hi,

My website used to rank #1 for many terms, and now due to someone having an exact copy of some of my pages on their server my ranking has plummeted.

The problem is, you can't actually find the duplicate content page on their site. They are linking to me in a way where google thinks it is part of my site. How do I get rid of this as their site obviously isn't doing this on purpose.

The cached version of this page is from dec 31 1969 and it is a mirror identical (without the css)

Are they linking to you via a 302 redirect? You can use the Server Headers [webmasterworld.com] tool to check.

Sounds like you're being page-jacked. This happens when certain types of redirects are used to link to your site (302 redirects, meta refreshes).

Google doesn't always handle these links correctly, so your site ends up being indexed under the other site's redirect URL, as well as your own domain. Google sees duplicate content in their index, and will choose to keep the most established one (ie the one with the highest PR).

To rectify this problem, you could get the site linking to you to change their method of linking. This is easier said than done, as often these redirect links are used for click tracking.

Alternatively, you could work on making your site more established - try and increase the number of good incoming links to your site. Again, trying to increase your PR could prove to be a difficult task, so it may be worth getting them to drop the link altogether.
