I did notice that a lot of people are saying the same thing and are unsure as to why. My site has always stayed the same ranking position on AOL and google.
As this was going on. I regularly monitor dmoz.org . I notices that they did a massive change in some shopping categories. The way they have organized the categories seem to have caused my problems.
Now to my question. Does dmoz affect googles listings or is this just a coincidence?
Welcome to webmasterworld. There are a number of relationships here. AOL uses Google's search index, so it's no coincidence you do well on both. Google certainly looks closely at DMOZ, in several ways. First they index it like any website. Some suspect (others disagree) that DMOZ is given extra credit as an "authority" site. Google then uses the DMOZ info as the basis for their own Directory. (click on MORE>> on google pages, then Directory to see) They reorder the Google Directory based on pagerank instead of alphabetical. This creates many more pages for Google to index, all with DMOZ info. Then lots of other sites copy the DMOZ directory, and Google finds and indexes them as well.
So there is certainly a boost from being in DMOZ.
As for G - add more backlinks to your site, keep adding fresh content...and hopefully you'll pop back up.
