Google presenting very old versions of our site

Our site has been up and running since July 2003, it did do very well until an algo change in Aug 2004.

We cleared the suspected culprit, duplicate content and a nasty 302 redirect mess, but the site has been in limbo ever since, with the mainpage MISSING, yet the PR and backlinks still there, with internal pages in the index but not ranking well.

Now it seems google is showing up our old pages (that no longer exist) from April 2004...

Anyone know why its showing these old pages?

apart from anyone knowing why old pages from a year ago appearing all of a sardine, can someone maybe explain why our homepage is missing - yet the PR is intact and the rest of the site is in there?
