I frequently see this exact ad text at the top of Gmail:

Free SEO optimisation - example.com - I am offering a free service for a temporary period

clicking just leads to example.com.

just wondering what the point is?

That would be someone that has no idea what they are doing, but likes to waste their money on google adwords :)
