Another "can't log in to gmail" thread

I was resigned to the fact that IE and gmail didn't get along. My sloution was to d/l firefox and voila! problem solved! UNTIL freaking firefox decided to freeze every 5 seconds...that is not an exaggeration. I uninstalled, reinstalled, upgraded, etc. Still having problems with firefox.

So now I am back at my original problem. Gmail only opens in IE when it wants to. Usually after my PC has been rebooted, it does not want to load. It's like there is something blocking it from displaying. I added gmail to my trusted sites, everything is set to low security, firewall is off, popup blocker is off, antivirus is even off. After a while (hours) and refreshing more than 20 or 30 times it will finally load.

Any ideas on either problem?
