Gmail uses?

Hi,

As a new member of the forum can anybody please explain to me what the uses of Gmail are? How is it better than hotmail or UK?

Also if you get a Gmail account is there a way to profit from it? Through advertising or something?

Gmail is an email client with a web interface. It uses Javascript heavily thus making the experience of using Gmail feel more like using a regular computer application rather than just using a more traditional webmail client like hotmail. Sites such as gmail are often said to use 'AJAX' technology.

You cannot profit from it directly. You don't make any money by viewing or clicking on any of the embedded ads.
In fact I doubt if google actually make any money from them either - everyone I know (techie and non-techie alike) developed a blindness to them fairly rapidly.

You can profit indirectly in the sense that time is money and it's a great time saver.
