Will google stop gmail?

I've read rumors (on gmail group) that google might either stop gmail, or freeze its development.
This would explain the slow development.

Is this a rumor or is it based on facts?

This is a new page that pops up for 5 seconds or so when you now sign out of your Gmail account. It wasn't there a few days ago.

I especially noted that they state "limitied availability".
Is this a sign that it may never come out of Beta?

Interesting point... I have been seeing the "Limited Availability" message when I have logged out, and wondered the same thing.

It would not surprise at me all.

I think Gmail severely impinges on intellectual property rights in a climate of ever increasing IP protection.

Whether or not you agree that it impinges on IP rights, there is certainly enough there that it must cause Google some consternation.

I doubt it. They need new sources of revenue (content). Unless they did enough studies that show that people don't like those personalized ads on e-mails.

Gmail is "limited availability" because it's still in beta and not open to all. This is just a rumor, almost certainly baseless. The assertion that development has slowed is pure conjecture too - just because the interface is not showing great changes doesn't mean that there isn't development server-side or in terms of infrastructure.

The page referred to above has disappeared this morning.

This could all be a tempest in a teapot however if they decide to "limit" availability I hope that those that have an account now and have moved all their e-mail to them will be allowed to continue.

I dont know, if they where going to cancel it, why the sudden influx of invites? I have over 150 gmail invites, and if they where going to cancel I'd think they would stop giving out the invites.

They are probably wondering why nobody clicks on their ads. WHAT ADS! They say they have ads, I dont see any. Besides, people that use pop dont get ads.
