Still using GMail?

Now that the hype around gmail has died down, are we still using GMail? I used it for a while, sent out some invites to friends, now i don't use it at all anymore.

No good reason, just sticking to what i have (Yahoo mail plus works fine now that they gave me 2gb, and i get pop access which is nice)

I must get all of the updates late. Is there really an import mail feature?

Yeah, when you log in there is red link at the top that says "New Features" - the top one is about importing contacts from other programs. I haven't used it yet though because I don't keep any contact lists I'm just weird like that. :)

Yeah, you can import contacts. But you still can't import emails from other accounts.

That's probably not going to be a feature.

hmmmm... I've flip-flopped on Gmail enough you'd think I was a politician.

Initially, I took the invite, created it, and let it rot for a month while I got my head around the whole scanning for keywords.

Then decided to heck with it, it's not like all the other online services don't have the ability (the Patriot Act pretty much means they have to have the ability to do it on gov't request).

Started using it, really enjoyed the interface, got using it more, started to like it and use it as the forward-dump for my collection of e-mails, using the labels extensively, so I only had to log into G to check and see if I had mails coming from a dozen or so scattered accounts. Started getting more and more dependant on it, until...

The wall. I realized that G autmatically bounces anything with an executable as an attachment.

That effectively kills it's usefullness for me. about 10-20% of my email traffic has executables attached. Mostly in the form of SFX archives, which is the handiest way of xfering bundles of documents.

So now, everything forwards to POP3 and T-Bird. G sits there collecting dust, I drop by from time to time to see if they've dumped the silly executable rule. They say it's to protect us from virii, but to heck with that. Installing a decent thoughput virus scanner (like yahoo does) would be far more effective and less limiting.

Yeah it does suck that. Those poor old virus senders are going to have to stick there programs in zip files.
