I'm not a big sports fan, but always watch the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies because they're major productions, with a cast of thousands, fireworks, the whole works...

A brief review of the closing ceremony:

The opening sequence was very Fellinesque. Love Fellini, so fine with me.

The section about a third of the way into it, when they trotted out YMCA by the Village People, and the stuff right afterwards, was bizarre in the extreme.

About two thirds of the way through, there was a segment with guys flying on incredibly strong fans blowing upwards. That was absolutely incredible. I don't know if it's common these days, but I've never seen anything like it and I have to try that myself.

The closing part had Avril Lavigne, which was great since she's a real cutey and Canadian.

Good show, Italy.

They closed it down just in time for Mardi Gras.

i dunno, I found it pretty dull... there was some *very* bad dancing (and I don't just mean YMCA) - the dancers just weren't staying in time with each other.

Mind you, I only saw about 5 minutes then found something more interesting to watch...

best, a.

Does anyone know what the guy who managed to grab the microphone said before he was whisked away by security?

He spoke in Italian and I do not speak that language.

He said 'Passion lives in Torino' which was the slogan for the olympics.

What was important, was that his black T-Shirt had a logo for an online casino

So it was a free advertising ploy, not a political statement.

Need I ask which casino would do that?

Boy, they make me laugh. Moreso than the athletes (yawn!), GP makes me proud to be Canadian.
