A garlic press for mutant garlic...
Is it Saturday already? OK, I think it's a mint for making money coins.

Oil then. With such a lever it has to be something hard. Grape stones maybe.

Old fashioned cheese press?
8:51 pm on Jan 23, 2006 (gmt 0)
Nothing to do with grapes or the oil contained therein.
Not a cheese press.

Looks like it could be an old cheese press. Still looking for a picture though...
<edit>Here's a similar contraption - [home.btconnect.com...] </edit>

Nice try pmkpmk, but not a dough press.

I guess wooden presses have a similar look. However, this has a very specific purpose.
HERE's [images15.fotki.com] another one.

Potatoes. You slice them into small pieces and then you press the water out. Gives you starch.

Looks like a saddle makers stretcher.
9:08 pm on Jan 23, 2006 (gmt 0)
Not for gin or saddles. As I understand it, the contraption was used in the kitchen.

Well, I have looked high and low for both butter and soap presses, and neither of them match :(
Perhaps a Paul Bunyon burger press?

Dang, here I was looking for a 19th-century artillery shell gunpowder packer ;-)

Here's [images16.fotki.com] another one with a different look. This device can press what the others press plus more.

Honey gets pressed? I though it gets centrifuged?
(or is it true that the bess get pressed? :-) )

I didn't see anything about cider. I guess you could press apples, but I'm not exactly sure - but it's not for cider.
