OK, I am in the market for a flat screen and I am just so confused on what to get.
I know the pros and cons on each and price differences, but could someone with real experience with each tell me what you think is better.

I am OK with a 32' LCD or a 42' Plasma.

ganderla, Relating to another thread about places to live you were on. Plasmas start malfunctioning at around 6500 feet elevation where as LCD's are fine even on airplanes. That is something to keep in mind for the future if you think about places in New Mexico, Colorado, etc that are over that elevation. I was looking at plasmas before I considered moving places such as Santa Fe. Now the Sharp Aquos line seems to be the best choice for quality LCDs.

I know the Plasma is better, but it was too expensive for me. So I went with LCD, a 55" by Sony. It has the HDTV thing built into it. It has an excellent picture, especially when a program (like football) is broadcast in HD. I just wish everything was broadcast in HD, it really makes a difference.

So, after 3 months I am happy with LCD, if that is any help. I do not regret the purchase.

Has anyone had experience with going with Dell?
I like thier computers and it does not hurt that I have a huge credit line there.

I bought a Dell flat panel monitor. I don't care for their computers, but the monitor was sw333t :-)

Really solidly made, with integral USB ports, and a stand with built-in cable tidy, landscape / portrait mode, 180 deg rotation, and great height adjustability. Excellent picture quality, too, and nary a dead pixel.

Is there much difference in the colour rendering of the two screen types, does anyone know?

Friday I picked up (barely-it's 92 pounds) a 42" Phillips plasma for $1900 from Sams. I think Circuit City had them for a bit less but they quickly sold out.

Have to upgrade our cable service for HDTV which adds about $13 per month. Then we'll get about 13 HD channels for now.

Haven't seen thing in HDTV yet until the cable guy comes Tuesday, but conventional stuff looks great. Watched a 1930's B/W musical DVD tonight and home movies yesterday. Everything looks better.

You are going to love the HD and not regret the extra cable cost. WOW, does it make a difference. You will really notice when you switch back and forth between a non-HD channel and an HD channel.

Ok, I have finally decided that it will be at least a 42 inch plasma. Now the tough part, brand. I could go with major brand name, like sony or save a little and go with something I have never heard of.

If your not looking for a truly flat hang on the wall type screen I would recommend a DLP TV. I bought a samsung 50" DLP about 1.5 years ago and I still think it has the best picture you can buy (much better than plasma or LCD). Plus, its fairly thin (about 17 inches), and very light (I can pick it up myself).

Once you get HD, you will never go back. I find myself watching the most random stuff sometimes, simply because it is in HD.

On an unrelated note, I don't think women appreciate HD at all. I don't know how many times I have walked into the living room and seen my wife sitting there watching a program on the non HD channel when all she has to do is switch up one channel and she could be watching the same thing in HD. I will tell her to switch it to HD and she is always just like, "I'm fine watching it here". Drives me nuts.

I'm very happy with my SONY 50" Grand WEGA. Costco has it for about $2300. It's a projection LCD so it's about 17" deep, yet it's amazingly light--about 72lbs. The clarity is amazing and with the internal HD tuner I'm getting almost a dozen over the air HD stations in North Dallas. SONY also has a 42" model (KDF-E42A10).

We have a 42 in sony plasma. It looks awesome in HD.

My father-in-law has a 32inch lcd - that looks it has a mild case of the jaggies all the time. Too slow of a response time I think.

I have a pair of 21 inch gate way LCD wide screen monitors on my work box. They are such an awesome picture - hd ready - they remind me of the plasma.

> discovery HD theater

The sunrise show is so cool. (get InHD1 and InHD2 - by non other than Mr. IceRocket/Broadcast.com/Mavricks - Mark Cuban)...

I agree, the InHD channels are fantastic. The concerts they have on there are also great.

I didn't realize that those channels were from Cuban. I thought he owned HDNet which I thought was a different company.

>>Mark Cuban

That guy is always ahead of the curve.

I am about to check to see if we get that InHD up here in Canada. I love HD, especially sports and concerts.
