It was one of those "I'll get around to it" items. The door on my fridge (in the RV) would fall off if the door was opened more than about half-way. Obviously, the first step was to not open the door any farther than usual. That usually worked, but not always.

The door is held in place by a pin fastened to a bracket, one at the top and bottom. The pins would fit into a corresponding orifice in the door. The top pin was loose, and I assumed it was a broken spring that was supposed to keep the pin held down. The opening door would cause the pin to ride up, where it then lost its grip.

(I'm getting to the story..)
This last weekend I travelled to an event with the RV, and after arriving I started some housekeeping... turn on the propane, light the fridge, check the stove, light the furnace. I had a new assistant with me and was showing him how things worked. We got the fridge fired up, and I pushed the door closed.. almost. Then I knelt down to light the furnace, located at the floor beneath the fridge.

What I did not see was that the door was slowly opening (No I never bother to get completely level) and as it reached the magic half-way point it promptly fell off. That door fell off and cracked me across the forehead hard enough to knock me to my senses. After a little cussing and moaning, and wiping the blood out of my eye, I took a closer look at that pin holding the door.

What's this?! No spring. The top of the pin has a hex head and it's threaded to screw into the bracket, thus preventing it from riding up.

So I finally got around to it. I fixed the fridge door.

Ha ha love it. Nice story.

Sorry to laugh at your misfortune but the picture I have in my mind is quite amusing....to me anyway.

Actually, my head isn't that hard. There is a dent in the door, to match the one in my head. But neither dent is very serious.

My friends at the event all thought it was funny too...

I do for others immediately, for myself I procrastinate.

I read your post yesterday, saw myself in your reflection, laughed and jumped in the car ... I have a rather long "country" driveway, the type with gravel/shell/dirt wheel paths, grass centre and verges ... except for grass cutting I doubt it's been touched in forty years ... the wheel paths worn deep with old growth potholes in several places ... re-gravelling (digging up ancient shell middens for driveway surfacing no longer being acceptable behaviour) has been on my to-do list for a decade ... well, one of those neglected potholes ate my muffler.

So I spent part of today installing a new muffler ... tomorrow I will enjoy spreading 50 yards (about 40 cubic metres) of gravel ... very expensive gravel as it has to come from off-island ... yes a gravel travel surcharge ... carefully keeping it off the grass ... zillions of wheelbarrow loads ... plus compactor rental ... my lower back and arms are acheing and I haven't done anything yet ... in the rain according to the weather report.

Sorry I laughed.
