Words That Sound Risque . . .

. . . but aren't

I used to do a Monday morning chat thing on a radio station. Once I mentioned that I caught my dongle in the zipper of my laptop bag. I almost got censored.

Even my secretary giggles when I use the word.

Is that the only legitimately non-risque word that elicits such responses?

Shag: a carpet texture, a swing dance or a name of a bird.

I'm from Scotland and I once went on holiday to Myrtle Beach in the US, which was billed as the "Shagging Capital of the World".

Boy, was I disappointed.

When I say it, it makes me giggle. When you say it, you sound like a dirty old man.

I don't mind the "dirty" part, but "old"; well that's hitting below the belt. :(

my American girl friends, 'he'd knock her up' - I was wrned about this phrase when visiting the states years ago much to my amusement.

In the UK (i.e Civilised nations) it means to call you and wake you up. Tut tut.
