NPR played a few licks last night during a report covering the discovery of the Carnegie Hall Voice of America tapes and the brief history of Coltrane playing with Monk.

A little more background and some heartfelt reviews:

Too bad they can't keep playing here on earth.

I just feel like I'm sitting in some smokey jazz bar every time I hear it, words just can't describe how amazing it truly is.

Frustratingly, I can't get the clips to play. Nonetheless, isn't it wonderful that we have this squirrel-like trait of cataloguing & hoarding.

Have to admit that it took me 40 years to 'discover' A Love Supreme (the RVG remastered reissue). Sometimes I do feel that we don't actually discover music; rather it discovers us - when we're ready.

A question for any 'Trane enthusiasts...

The use of the gong at the start of 'Acknowledgement' is a deliberate 'acknowledgement' to Yusef Lateef's 1957 Prayer to the East?
