It's funny that i'm 100 miles away, and the first I hear about it is from a UK site! Maybe I need to pay attention to local news more often...:)

he USGS says the risk to populated centres is small

Which populated centres? Pittsburg, Atlanta, Houston? I'm not trying to say 'the sky is falling', but if I was living a little closer to the area I just might be concerned about the potential for a volcanic eruption in the neighborhood.
