Subconsciously aware I've got something on the clipboard

that feeling of 'needing to paste'

this really is a foo topic...

I copied something to the clipboard, then got distracted reading another article. I just realised that even after 10 mins or so I've got this slightly unsettled feeling and realise it's my brain telling me 'there's something you need to paste somewhere'. I couldn't remember what it was, just the feeling of needing to paste.

Sure enough, I pasted into notepad and there it was, an email address I had been meaning to add to my address book.

I wonder which part of the brain is responsible for the 'awareness of needing to paste'!? Anyone else get this or am I going bananas?

I'm glad I'm not the only one! ;)

This happens to me all the time. I thought I was going bonkers at first, too, but now that I know it happens to others, I'm not going to worry about it anymore!

Well, that's still some comfort! ;) Seriously, though, I think this type of oddity stems from the same part of the brain that tells you that you left the car keys on the dashboard, forgot your wallet at home, or didn't take out the trash before leaving on vacation. In other words, the part of your brain that remembers something after it's too late to do anything about it!

Funnily enough, I think thats the only part of my brain that works sometimes.

that's why I love computers - in the real world you can't control paste your wallet into the car when you're on the motorway, because you can't copy it onto your clipboard earlier. And don't get me started on the need for a real world control z!

hi,

this is one of the many influences of a parallel world nearby (leftdownover the corner you are not looking at this moment), where you actually have copied the contents of the clipboard already.

So, to make everything pretty, your brain gets the message to correct the situation.

This kind of message is very common but often poorly understood. As an example you for instance will get such a message immediately after you push that red button which reads "don't push me".

I get it. So, that place where you have already done the dishes is a parallel world. The unsettled feeling is a sign that you're in the wrong one. Do the chore, and the two worlds remerge.

OK

So is the parallel world where I do nothing but visit WebmasterWorld costing Brett a fortune in bandwidth? ;)
