A Web Interface for Chat Apps

My coworkers see chat programs as a useful tool for the office (chuckling), but our place of work doesn't allow the installation of freeware.

Is there any way to access AIM without the program installed? Unless I'm mistaken, I've seen a friend access AIM with an alternative web interface.

I've tried Googling an answer, but such a keywordless conundrum comes up with little (or far too many) results. Sorry to bring this issue to WW, but you've been a lot of help in the past.

not sure about AIM but you can access MSN messenger through a web app webmessenger.msn.com

What about open-source software? If that's allowed, try Gaim.

thanks, but I'm hesitant to install software of any kind on the office PCs. I don't have the permissions for some. But if all else fails I'll try it.

Yes, you can access AIM Express by going to [aim.com...] and clicking the link for AIM Express.
You don't have to download it.
Yahoo also has a web messenger service you can access at [messenger.yahoo.com...]
(These are useful when using public computers also).
