The Grand-Daddy of Blues/R+B in the western world - and everything inspired by it commercially.

In reverance, I doff my cap.

You don't know who he is? You should...

Excellent bluesman.

>>The Grand-Daddy of Blues/R+B in the western world

That title is a bit much though. :) Considering Blues originated in the American South.

The Blues are near and dear to me, I live close enough to Memphis, Tennessee to drive there once a month, and Memphis is called, "The Birthplace of the Blues". Beale Street is an eye-opener to be sure.

Short history - [smithsonianeducation.org...]

Beale Street - [bealestreet.com...]

The Blues gave birth to rock-n-roll and nearly every rock-n-roll guitarist in the world acknowledges that it was the Blues influence that got them hooked. B.B. King, Howling Wolf, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, all influenced by that soulful Mississippi Delta sorrow. Rock-n-Roll has been described as the Blues on steroids.

Three chords, and a lotta soul. Hymns and spirituals turned into wailful laments.

I hate the short edit window.

Correction- Beale Street is "The Home Of The Blues", and "The Birthplace Of Rock And Roll". Up north just a little bit, there's "The Home Of Country Music" in Nashville. Much more fun to hang out on Beale Street than it is to hang out on Music Row in Nashville. Unless of course, you're looking for some cowboy boots and over-priced cowboy hats.

He discovered Rod Stewart, IIRC.

Early forms of the blues evolved in and around the Mississippi Delta in the Southern United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries...

Never heard of him. But I mainly listen to the original bluesmen.
