Willkommen daheim! (welcome back home)
Herzlich Willkommen! (Heartily welcome)
Schön daß Sie wieder da sind! (Nice to have you back - formal)
Schön daß Du wieder da bist! (Nice to have you back - personal / eye-level)
Na, alter Sack, wieder da? (better get your resumés prepared when posting that sign :-) )

Oh how I love those stereotypes! Folks, German IS slightly larger than Washington DC! It's population, it's specialties, its traditions cover the same range as do Texans, Californians, Floridians and New Englanders. And - PLEASE - don't mistake Germany with Bavaria!

Once in the US I saw an advertisement for "St. Pauli Girl" beer. It was a busty blonde, dressed in traditional clothing. The only problem was: the traditional clothing was from Bavaria (deep south, the Texans of Germany), but St. Pauli is a part of the town of Hamburg, which is some 1000km more north - our equivalent of the Chicago area.

Lol - of course, I was being sarcastic - the Bavarian folk culture is generally what people in the US associate with Germany, right behind the unfortunate period of time we all know about... At least I didn't call for a Bierkrugstemmen on the company time!

St. Pauli Girl is owned by a German company - I'd imagine they conceived the branding for the version they sell in the US?

PC land . . . . probably a good idea to just stay away from ethnicity altogether.

Word of advice: do not EVER pull a prank on your system administrator. I can tell you, you do not want their revenge. :-( But a great alternative to the peanuts trick is BALLOONS.

For April Fools' day my wife and I came to work after hours with 200 balloons and my air compressor and filled up my co-worker's cube, only because I knew he wouldn't go ballistic. It was actually pretty awesome, he swam around in there all day in an ocean of balloons, doing what he does, working, etc., like they weren't even there.

If I had time I would make a german chocolate cake (not the cocunut kind but the one with the strange cherries that you like practicly pickle.) but unfortunatly it takes like 3 days to make.

I love the baloon idea but unfotunatly I don't have the time.

I'm the assistant systems admin so I think I could get away with small pranks
