Songs came to mind such as:
Leaving on a jet plane - Peter, Paul & Mary
Up, up and away (in my beautiful balloon) - 5th Dimension
Pack up your troubles... - Vera Lynn
Summer holiday - Cliff Richard
Travellin light - Cliff Richard
Barbados - Typically Tropical
The day we went to Bangor - Steeley Span (Lol!)
San Francisco - Scott MacKenzie
The Letter - The Box Tops
Do you know the way to San Jose? - Dionne Warwick
We got a bit stuck after that.
We'd like to compile the ultimate collection of songs about travel for our journey(ideally 'chart'/pop songs about leaving for somewhere better or about following dreams in a far distant land...).
"Music to escape by..." Any suggestions?
Let's not forget Margaritaville (ugh. Seems to be the escape favorite of many.)
Running Down a Dream, Tom Petty
Truckin, Grateful Dead
Panama, Van Halen (well, sorta . . .)
Roundabout, Yes (bring the 'genics :-) )
Bad/Nationwide, ZZ Top
Tusche, ZZ
And who can forget . . . .
RADAR LOVE
Golden Earring.
Been drivin' all night m' hands wet on the wheel . . .
Hormone charged and ready to rumble? 4 guys on the way to the NJ shore started the journey with Springsteen's "Born to Run" playing out the speakers of a top-down '65 Checy Impala Super Sport. Bruce, the NJ shore and my '65: Perfect together.
Heading from Miami to a hotel Key West, after spending all day deposing an expert witness - traveling at night, with the Mustang's convertible top down, with a million stars in the sky and the ocean below -well . . . a Pink Floyd mix made the time pass nicely.
Was the drive to Key West a road trip, a head trip or both? I dunno. I wasn't there. I was somewhere in a state of bliss, communing with the gods of good music, warm winds, stars and the promise of 4 more nights to spend in Key West . . before returning to NJ and work and the real world in February.
Depends on what I'm escaping...
I tend to like the Blues when I drive if I'm alone in the car.
Albert King's Crosscut Saw, T-Bone Walker's T-Bone Blues, Otis Rush's Gambler's Blues, SRV's Flood Down In Texas.
Muddy Waters, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, Howlin' Wolf, Slim Harpo etc.
