My wife's disability claim is not only approved but she starts receiving her first paid benefits today!
Her benefits are provincial - that is they come from our provincial government. Her disability - her profound deafness - is permanent since birth and cannot be cured.
She applied for it last fall, in her 41st year, after learning she might be eligible.
She gets a tax-free retroactive lump sum - no insignificant amount either. Then a tax-free, decent monthly living allowance to cover rent, groceries and full eye, drug and dental coverage for herself, our son and me.
Now we'll be able to replace our aging, sagging, ancient beloved rust bucket with a much younger rust bucket! :)
