Nope.

Nothing to do with hot air balloons.

OK, a wild stab at it.

Is it a North Korean cyclotron? - LH

Nope.

Not a North Korean cyclotron.

However, magnetism does play a part in this device.

I thought so! Either that or some impliment of torture.

Is it some sort of scientific apparatus, or a part thereof?

Not really scientific apparatus although it could be used by scientist to perform its function.

Does that make sense?

Yes Phrase: That does make sense in a way.

Back to the Foo picture, its a damned good one!

Is it part of a larger more complete and useful
apparatus, scientific, industrial or otherwise?

[ Frankly, it looks like some appliance from a sci-fi beauty shop for robots. ] -LH

Larry,

It would not look out of place in Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Perhaps its a hair dryer for robot Maria?

OK, industrial. I could have guessed that, its really ugly.

Is this device used in the production of semiconductors?
I thought I had seen everything ugly there, but who knows? -LH

Nothing as fancy as semi-conductors.

UGLY! I think it looks nice - all that gleaming metal!

Hey! I'm into my second costly 6-pack of German Bier.

Frankly, it looks like the High Tiara from some robot empire.

All seriousness aside, its industrial, so I go from there.

(BTW: I see a lot of junk disappeared from the main recent pages)

Following the Industrial idea:
Is this a device from the AUTOMOTIVE Industry?

They paint their cars colors other than white after all. -LH

Larry,

It is used in many industries - probably automotive too.

If this device is used in many industries, it may have wide
interest. For this reason, I cannot understand why this thread is
banned from the main "recent yak yak"

I would lodge a complaint, but prefer another beer.

When I get back, I will have another question.

Its used by many industries - so its not specifically machinery for making cars - but could be used in making some cars parts.
