How many icons do you guys have on your desktop, I like to keep mine fairly clean, with only a few of them, though it can get cluttered at time. Most of the stuff i use regularly is on a quicklaunch type toolbar.

4: My Computer, Network, Recycle Bin, and a folder I use for all my stuff.

For whatever reason I've never used "My Documents"...

One monitor has

4 network icons for various servers
12 Month folders Jan-Dec
A folder for my generic logos and advertising
A "Macintosh HD" icon

The other monitor is empty.

A total of 18 icons that take up about 2% of my total working area

About 50, it looks just as cluttered as my non-virtual desktop. But I know where everything is!

I had someone use my computer when I was on vacation once. They did an alphabeticaly sort on my desktop, I could have killed them.

Zero on the desktop. I have a thin menu bar on the right hand edge with five icon links to my most-used programs (Firefox, Evolution, file manager, shell prompt and GIMP) - other programs in sub-menus. Then there are the icons for the four desktops, an exit button and a clock. Beautiful simplicity.

As you've probably guessed, I don't run Windows: I run Linux with the XFCE windows manager. It looks a bit like this:

Access (My Computer), Network (My Network Places), Area 51 (Recycle Bin).

I HATE icons all over the desktop. I use the quick launch bar for stuff I do every day including links to sites I hit daily, and the Start Menu (which I have also heavily customized) for everything else. On occasion, I even have to go into Program Files, find the relevant program folder, and double click the executable. Or sometimes I use Run....

14:

My Documents (Windows)
My Computer (Windows)
Internet (Folder)
Media (Folder)
Works (Folder)
Pinball (Shortcut)
CD Drive (Shortcut)
Check Mail (Internet Shortcut)
Scanner Wizard (Shortcut)
Switch User (Shortcut)
Ulead Photo Express (Shortcut)
Works Word (Shortcut)
Recycle Bin (Windows)

All my Windows icons are customized in occordance with my current theme and I use Quick Launch for the rest, much more accessible.

too many to count, maybe 60-100, arranged in thematically sloppy groups, browsers, utilities etc.
