I recently purchased a nice new speed demon with my bounty check from the Googleplex. It came with a 200 GB hard drive, which I would like to partition in half - I always liked to keep my downloads and the little HTML files on the D: drive to keep them separate from the OS and Program files, etc. Otherwise, the Defrag process becomes a real pain.

Anyhow, I had some programs that could handle partitioning an existing Hard Drive without destroying the Data. These programs required that I boot the machine in DOS mode from a floppy and they could do their job. Worked fine with Win98 and WinME.

Now with Windows XP, DOS mode does not seem to be available. Any solutions on how I can partition an existing HD with Windows XP without destroying the existing data?

I use Partition Magic 8 a Powerquest product purchased by Symantec, check their website.
Works great for making and resizing on the fly.

Does it work with NTFS drives that Windows XP uses?

Partition Magic works with NTFS partitions just fine. Another good partitioning software is BootIt NG.
