(Despite my age)

And, unless you live in a vacuum, we all have heard the debacle surrounding celebrities a week or two ago.

My landline is all mine. No telehone solitations, no more faxes comming in unannounced, no 'empty' calls either.

Ahhh, so just to be whatever, I'd give that up? No, noooo...

What about the rest of you? Will you ever make the plunge into the murky world of cells?

Got one (Xda II), love it. Use it all the time.

Bored stuck in traffic? (live in Bangkok-stuck in traffic a lot) Do a bit of browsing or check my emails.

Convenient and feature packed. When I eventually lose it I'll buy another one the same day.

Don't own a personal one. My company forced a company phone on me which I have to carry with me when I'm traveling.

You know, I was stubbornly against cellphones too. Then, we got cellphones cause we were going to cut land-line service (long story). Now, I LOVE my phone. I like being at a store, seeing a widget that mom asked me to keep an eye out for, and then calling to confirm price, color, size, etc. I like it that people can call me on my way home from work (whilst my hubby is driving, thank you!) and make plans to meet up. Do I use it all the time? No. Do I find it useful when I need it? Heck yeah! I could still see living without it, cause I don't NEED it, but it sure is nice having one.

<time to get all melodramatic again lol . . . >

It's difficult to work in a high-tech industry and not become a slave to all it's gadgets. The cell phone is where I've drawn my line. I can't imagine anyone needing to get ahold of me so badly that I have to have that accessability 100% of the time.

The rudeness of people yakking behind you in supermarkets, while driving, and even in theatres only further commits my resolve, I refuse to take part in this.

My wife owns one for her business and she is one of the responsible ones: pulls off the road if it rings, turns it off in public, etc. Interestingly enough, she doesn't appear to be prone to the spam. Our theory is that she's using it for voice only and she is NOT on a 100% billion minute plan. She buys her minutes monthly and seldom uses it enough to exceed her self-imposed budget. Maybe that makes her not as attractive of a target, don't know. (dont't care! :-D )

It got to teh point a few years ago where I had two of teh darn things plus a home phone. Got rid of both of them, I didnt need of want people phoning me on a sunny Sunday afternoon at teh beach.

I really do feel that they have taken a large chunk out of peoples lives.

My firm give me a phone for work purposes so I have to have it with me I dont give teh number to anyone outside my department, its not even on the intranet.

have considered buying a blackberry.....

I have a Treo 600 and love it. Email, web, PDA, Phone... everything at my finger tips. If incoming calls annoy me, I turn it off and let voice mail take over. The way I see it, if I didn't have a cell phone, my friends and associates would still call me on my home phone and the answering machine would be have the messages on it. Since I can turn my cell phone off whenever I want, I don't view it as an annoyance.

If someone says, "hey I called your cell phone and there was no answer". I say "yeah, I turned it off. If it was important you should have left a message".

My private time is my time. Just because I have a cell phone, people can't expect me to be available 24/7.

I caved in bought one two months ago. It has a pay as you go plan, so it is only costing 10 dollars a month. Plus I only paid 50 bucks for the phone itself. No real fancy features but I don't need to do anything other than making outgoing calls.

I only want it in case my car breaks down, or I am late and want to inform the person I am going to meet. So far I think I have made 3 calls.

I have one, but it IS my main line, since it would take about $15,000 to run a land line to where I live. And beng on top of the mountain, there is a tower right accross the valley, on another mountain. Not great reception, but it works. (It's hard to get a job, credit, CAR, etc without SOME sort of home phone # ... Trust me, I did without a phone, cell or otherwise, for 4 years.)

wow, i've had a cell phone for just over 10 years now. at first, it was almost never on to receive a call unless i was expecting (battery didn't last longer than a few hours). over time, i've had many different phones and watched the battery life increase to the point now of leaving a phone on for days. after certain accidents, i've been without my cell for a few days at a time. maybe it's that i'm younger, but a cell phone is part of my life. i know my parent's phone number off the top of my head... after that, i have no clue what anyone's number is.

straying from the point, i've never (knock on wood) received any spam to my cell.

I have one. Had it for about - um - gosh, it can't be 7 years can it? Well, I guess it can.... how time flies, etc.

It's only on when I need to make a call, or when it's VITALLY important that someone reach me while I'm on the highway some where (twice in the years I've owned one). It's for my convenience. That's it. I wouldn't ever turn it on in a public place, nor would I find it necessary to shop or eat with the damn thing plugged into my ear.

I hate phones. The only reason for any phone is for my convenience. If I didn't have to have the landline for dialup, I wouldn't have a landline at all. Which would be effectively no phone, because the cell doesn't work here in the valley. Suits me.... I feel about phones the same way I feel about tv.

I have one. It's for emergencies only. $12/month.

It sits in its charger on top of the rolltop desk in my home office. It sits there all the time and never leaves.

That way, in case my rolltop desk has an emergency, it can call me at my other office.

Just had to get one yesterday ..cos we are moving again and need to have a temporary "stay in touch #" for customers ..
Wish ours cost $12.oo per month..
Just paid ( best deal there is here ) equivalent of $45.oo for 55 minutes call time and one month during which I can be called on the thing ...
If I had signed a 12 month deal could've got 10% off ..

hate mobile phones ..yuppie bijou ..
