Has anyone used this toolbar yet?

Ah.... no. I don't use IE except for testing, and I wouldn't use a toolbar of any sort even if I DID use IE.

I think this sort of thing will have two very polarized reactions: those who think it's an unqualified "thumbs up"; and those who think just the opposite, based pretty much on which "hat" color they generally wear....

Can't tell you that one. I've never used toolbars, and haven't used IE in almost a year....

you can see if a site claiming to be in New York is actually hosted in China

I'm a bit dubious about the effects of this. What does it mean by "claiming to be"? I run a site for an organisation based in London (England), but my server is in the USA. Would the toolbar flag my site up as potentially fraudulent? And how often are you going to get false hits like that?

Really good question, TheDoctor. ALL my sites (and many belonging to clients) are hosted on servers in BC Canada, though we're all based in the US.

I'd hope this was a "claim" that's not really proven. I'd also hope if it does "catch" sites like yours and mine, that it doesn't actually say "fraudulent".

*sigh* I REALLY don't want to use IE just to find out.... I tend to give IE the "begone, devil" crossed index fingers any more. I'd rather put something in the sites' fine print area that states up front "this site hosted by the great folks at AOS, Victoria, BC, Canada".

[Hmm. I don't "wear a hat" at all, so my earlier statement in re polarization was off it looks like, at least based on my own reaction....]

I regularly use IE, so I guess I'll give it a try.

Don't know how we'll share any findings, but I'm willing to work with those serious.

I'll get back...

Wonder if there are any conflicting issues with Google TB...

Yuk!

I'll say only this. According to the way the software works, every cached page, on the Internet, is located in another country.

I do a lot of searches and partake of the cached pages quite frequently, so you can imagine how every cached pages throws this little pop-up asking if you want to 'remember' or 'report' this site. <soft shudder of remembrance>

Even if each page cached was actually on a different server outside of the US, the hassle of telling the application to 'remember' this page as 'good' ( every page, every time ) drove me to ADD / REMOVE Programs quick like a bunny.

*sigh* Why am I not surprised, considering?

Sounds as if most folks who use it might eventually realize that something's weird? Otherwise, the "reportee" would be up to its server-limit in nothing flat.... we can hope....

I tend to seriously dislike iffiness of this magnitude. Thanks for the report-back, pendanticist....

Sure thing. :) Bit of a waste of time too...
