No matter how many times I do it, whenever I have to name a machine I have a block... like I'm naming a kid or something. Right now, I'm sitting here trying to come up with new names for 2 servers and I'm stuck.

Talking to my friends, I've heard some interesting themes come up.
examples:
pair of servers called Ike and Tina... collectively called the 'Turner Cluster'
Lab named with characters from GI Joe.

Anyway, I'm looking for some ideas on themes.

Anybody got any?

10 points to balam! :)

I'd use Stewie rather than Stewart.

Hah, I know what the reference is, having become aware ;) several hours beforehand, so I thought I'd drop another hint. If noone makes a correct guess, I'll keep the points, but otherwise...

Points are redeemable at the front desk, yes? I'm hoping I can get a kewpie doll!

Doh! I was looking right at the bottle when I was posting that... checked it 6 times... one for each bottle... maybe that was the problem :)

The points may be redeemable in New Orleans for a pint, so I don't know how long you want to leave it open.

We are using the Loony Tunes charaters for machine names. I am currently sitting at Sylvester. Also here is Taz, Bugs, Marvin, Wile_E and Tweety.

I have seen a set of servers named after the moons of saturn.

I try to get clients not to name machines after people. I do have a couple clients where people are sitting at computers that is named for someone who are gone and replaced a couple times over. When working on these you keep bringing the ex-employees by referencing the computers.

What about Lord of the Rings?

Sauron (the firewall)
Sam (the groupware server)
Gandalf (R&D)
Gimli (Engineering)
Shelob (router)
Gollum (Accounting)
Elrond (Marketing)
etc.

Gee, I just name them after my exes.

- Grace (invariably whatever the crankiest, most schizoid computer I'm runing at the moment).

- Christine - aka Punk Rock Girl - Good for any machine that's a blast to use, and has a tendancy to keep you up all night.

- Jenny - The born again Christian. Good for any machine that's prone to getting caught up in the rapture.

Mary - The Goth. Good for a machine that's depressed (read: slow).

Wendy - "All show no go." -nuff said.

Adrianna - That saucy Latin

Athena (yes, she was a real person) - The friend with "priviledges."

NB: Never, EVER, name a computer after your current gal/wife. Bad voodoo.

That was my inspiration :D

Sadly, I settled down long before I hit the 44 women mark.
