I seem to remember a couple of years ago Googleguy proudly pointing out that Google had updated their copyright statement before Alltheweb - I guess this was around the time that they were both trying to outdo each others index size too.

So how are things going so far this year....

google.com - ©2004 Google

yahoo.com - Copyright © 2005 Yahoo! Inc

ask.com - ©2004 Ask Jeeves, Inc.

msn.com - ©2004 Microsoft Corporation

overture.com - ©2005 Overture Services, Inc

Seems like Yahoo are more on the ball than Google, so come on Googleguy, surely you have to beat msn and ask. Or maybe Google have decided to sandbox 2005 as it appeared to quickly and unnaturally ;)

You don't actually need to update the copyright decalaration (which is implied), but I agree that users do notice and it gives a good impression that the site is regularly updated.

Of course, the easiest way is to do this:

© <?php echo(date("Y"));?> Yourname

Yeah it surprises me when it is not done that way, but i guess these pages get a huge number of hits and even if that only requires a tiny amount of processing it kind of mounts up under the millions of hits.

The small print at the bottom of this page still reads

BestBBS v3.18 (c) WebmasterWorld.com Inc. 1998-2004

But maybe Brett is still asleep ;)

this is then...I'm copying all their content and put adsense on. It's not copyrighted anymore ;)
