Where would you retire? Costa Rica, Belize, NZ, Hawaii ...?

provided you have the resources...I'm just dreaming

you know... the normal drill: beach nearby, something else to do..like hiking, cheap, nightlife somewhere near, internet connection, electricity, personal and property safety, political stability and so on.

Essentially you want to be able to have almost everything that you have here. Hawaii would be perfect but it's way too expensive...NZ seems too far incase one decides to invite friends, come back to the US once a month or so.

where would you go? Who knows, maybe in 5 years I'll come back here, read this and pack my bags :).

Right now I have to worry about paying for my school...;)
I don't expect to "retire". Why wait until you're sixty before doing things you like, rather than being as a wage-slave? Same thing about where you want to live: if you know where you want to be, why aren't you already there?
Money. Unless someone somewhere is giving land, game and trees away for free (so you can hunt your own food and use the trees to build your own shelter), you're pretty much tied to the unfortunate need of money to simply live these days.

If I could travel back in time to retire I'd like to go back to the times before Europeans came to North America.

My earlier post about retiring to Ireland would work only if I had money. That just ain't so.

True, but you could stayy in the US and need $75K a year to live ok (in certain areas) or move to another country or place, buy a decent house and live nicely on $10K or so.

i lived in costa rica. in fact, i started an internet business down there in 96. yea, niave, idealist, yet smart, very smart...if you cared not about making money that is.

business aside. way aside. picture black sand beaches, mistic jungle, monkeys, volcanos, and simple beautiful people.

that said,italy, hands down.

wait...i haven't seen 99% of the world yet.

if i were to retire.....

i hope i get to that point.

i hope that i have the chance to choose.

i hope that when i do, i will know more than i do now.

ahh, the reasons we work so hard.

ahh, the future.

I'd probably retire right here in Missouri [visitmo.com]. I'm not much of a traveller, but if I were, I'd love to see Australia [australia.com], Sweden [visit-sweden.com], Finland [taivasalla.net], and New Zealand [newzealand.com].

I've reconsidered. I'm going some place warm. This snow and ice is killing me.

If you like to drink, you'll want to pass on Belize. Government, in Friday's new budget, jacked up the taxes on beer, alcohol & soft drinks by 100%. Are you a smoker? Excise on tobacco just went up 300%.
