This time of year always amazes me because of the differences in people's humor or lack therof.

I make custom things for people and sometimes I must decline for a number of various reasons. I always explain why I can't or won't make something and spend some time offering alternative suggestions where one might be able to get it done.

This time of year I get one of three responses:
1. An email thanking me for replying and offering alternative suggestions.
2. No response at all
3. A nasty, rude response implying that I must be incompetent since I obviously can't make what they demand.

#3 is usually from a person that wants either a truly fugly looking thing or they want me to copy someone else's design (and do it for 75% less).

On the good side, most people fall into category #1, but I just had one of the most rude obnoxious responses ever and had to vent.

What's your experience this time of year when you can't fill an order?

This is similar to the percentage of people who take out on the poor underpaid clerk at wally world during the holiday season any of the following:

1. Not enough money, and too many people to buy for.

2. Not enough money, and the need (stupid as it may be) to spend way too much appearing to have plenty.

3. Enough money, but a bad home situation.

4. Enough money, but a serious familial health situation.

5. Not a holiday person whether just a "bah humbugger" or because one's hols are NOT our Westernized norm at this time of year, and just plain pissed because one can't get into and out of wally world in anything under 2 hours any time between Thanksgiving and New Year's (US parlance....)

I do my absolute best to be the definition of the word "patience" at this time of year (you may be certain that the word isn't really a normal part of my psyche....) simply because being an #*$! to people who have no choice as to whether or how to retaliate is just plain ignorant.

[Edit: excuse me mr. bad-words filter sir. I was pretty sure I'd used that particular construction in the past, but either I was wrong, or someone's constricted your underpants....]
