OK, I admit I was looking for an Etch-A-Sketch of Ginger or MaryAnne for another Thread [webmasterworld.com] and found this instead.

* The lifespan of a tastebud is ten days.
* A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why.
* 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

[users.nac.net ]

BTW: Gilligan's first name was Willy

A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why.

I hate to break it to you, especially considering your nick, but Snopes [snopes.com] debunks this one.

One of the fastest growing cells in the body. which is why people who are getting chemotherapy for cancer tend to dislike the taste of their food - the fastest-growing cells in the body are targeted by chemo, and so the tastebuds get zapped immediately.

I've never heard my QUACK! echo :)

But did you know Gilligan's first name was Willy? Is that true? Willy Gilligan was his name?

TJ, that was one of the best internet duckcalls I've ever seen!

And no, I'm not an unsubscribe me person. I have a very useful email account junkmail@mydomain.com just for all those rats (present company excluded!)

And it echoed too!

Who's Ray Allen? Some US sports star?

There's a lot of stuff on the page that's just plain wrong. I wouldn't trust anything that's written there - although some of the plain wrong stuff is entertaining.

Who's Ray Allen?

The worlds best ever ventriloquist..( Without exception everyone since moves their lips )

..His two best known puppets ( I forgot what they are technically called ..but It's not puppets ..Anyone?..."Dolls" comes to mind but ......Dumb of me I oughta remember that ) were called "Lord Charles ..and also a duck named "Quackers"..with a very loud Quack!..

But I forgot you're a youngster ..."Pikachu generation" ;)....

'Swhen you know you're getting old ..when hardly anyone remebers what you remember..another 10 years and the reply to "Where were you when JFK was shot?" will be ..."Who's JFK?"...

In your favour is as duckhunter says ..that has got to be the very best "Quack" ever posted on the net ...take a bow ..;)...

And now go ask an "older relative" about Ray Allen ..they might even have a "video"..VHS or "max"..

but It's not puppets ..Anyone?...

Most commmon term would be "dummy" but in (UK) English I'm sure there is a special noun for it... can't remember now - will have a think.

But I forgot you're a youngster ...

Thanks, that made my day ;-)

"Pikachu generation" ....

You've lost me again. Who's Pikachu - some famous US sports star?

Ray Allen & Lord Charles!

Even better was Archie Andrews & Peter Brough [whirligig-tv.co.uk] (Archie being the dummy...!).

Archie is affectionately remembered in the UK as he used to have a very popular show - on the radio!

Superb...

Archie Andrews could only be on the radio, since you could always see Peter Brough's lips moving. He was a crap ventriloquist but a great spotter of talent to support Archie (eg Tony Hancock, Kenneth Williams, Bernard Bresslaw....).

The name for such a creature as Archie Andrews or Lord Charles (and Ray Allen was brilliant) is "ventriloquist's dummy".

Yep ..that always cracked me up ..the people who said he was great ..and never made the 'grey cell jump" that it's easy on the radio ....( don't mean you syzygy )...Ermm while we are here ..Tommy Cooper anyone ..I 'd love a dvd or even a VHS to show to my wife ( French but fluent in english ..and my son who is born here ) why I just fall to the floor and roll around laughing ...
Plus he was such a nice guy...

A Tommy Cooper compilation from the BBC [bbcshop.com]

Almost as abstract as Archie Andrews and his dummy (!), the BBC once famously broadcast a fine showing of the aurora borealis, or Northern Lights, on radio...
