I've only known him in a wheelchair - we met him and his wife a few years after the accident.
Although he's got some frustrations, on observation I'd say his life is pretty good. He takes his youngest daughter to her soccer games, he does volunteer work, he goes out drinking with us, he loves his wife, and he's a hoot to hang out with.
To me, it's sad when people have accidents and their bodies aren't the same - but I'm glad that folks like our friend and Christopher Reeve have/had the gumption to keep on going. I'm sure Chris Reeve was an inspiration to those around him, just like our friend is to us.
It was a sad day for us, hearing that Chris Reeve died - it was especially hard for our wheelchair-bound friend. Lives are surely shortened with that kind of traumatic injury - but Chris Reeve went way too soon on what seems to be some probable negligence. It stinks that he's gone.
