With all the webmasters coming to the Las Vegas conference from far and wide, I was wondering who was coming the furthest. I know some are coming from Hong Kong - but where do you end up if you go around the globe directly 'opposite' Vegas? I haven't got a globe in my office so I can't 'put my finger on it'.

Would it be in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Someone please put my mind at rest - where is the furthest populated country from Las Vegas?

My calulations put it somewhere in the south western corner of Turkistan, very few kilometers from the north-western border of Afghanistan and the north-eastern border of Iran.
Quite honestly, I have about as much chance of getting to either part of the world at the moment :(

Silly me! Forgot to hop over the equator.....
brdwlsh can't be far out, somewhere south of Madagascar and east of South Africa, out in that blue wobbly thing...... the Indian Ocean.
Guess there is less chance of ending up there at the moment for me ;)

So - either India, Madagascar or South Africa. Sounds like a good holiday tour!

Excellent site - thanks photon.

But which is the nearest populated country to that spot?

Atlantis? ;)

Actually, it looks like the closest is Madagascar. Look for the Hole-Digger's Map [wendycarlos.com] a little more than halfway down the page.

Thanks Photon. Looks like you're right.

That map gave me a headache; interesting to see that the whole of North America and Africa is 'opposite' ocean, and almost the entirety of Europe.
